As a primarily self-taught artist, I've always been able to draw and paint. While I have no formal training, my education has been enhanced by observation and learning from artists whose work I admire and experimenting to make the work my own.
My current passion is creating collages using authentic vintage papers and books, from which I combine various ephemera to create unique pieces. I'm always on the hunt for old books and papers to use in collages and I'm often asked where I find them. I seek them out in antique shops, online auctions, used book stores, and lately, friends have been sending me old book pages, letters, and other finds, the more beat up and grungy the better! Putting them together in a theme or in a pleasing arrangement evokes the stories and history behind the pieces. Who held that book? Who received that postcard? Whose report card was that?
Other collage series include using portions of magazine pages or mixtures of numbers, tags and other ephemera.
I also enjoy painting. My subject matter ranges from abstracts to landscapes to cityscapes to commissioned animal portraits. Living in the beautiful Central Texas Hill Country offers many intriguing subjects for paintings, from ranch fields to old barns and vehicles. I work in pastels and watercolor, although my first love is the color and range I get with acrylics. My work is realistic, a bit impressionistic, and I enjoy experimenting with color and texture. A new-found delight is the exploration of abstract painting.
I am an active member of the Creative Arts Society in Austin, Texas, and the Artists Alliance of the Hill Country in Dripping Springs, Texas. My work has been shown at Butterfly Gallery in Dripping Springs, Texas, Art Connections Gallery in LaGrange, Texas and at Art on 12 in Wimberley, Texas.
