As primarily a self-taught artist, my education has been the study and emulation of artists whose work I admire. I have also learned from various teachers at art workshops. My subject matter ranges from landscapes to city scapes to still lifes to animal portraits. I've worked in pastels and watercolor, and my first love is the color and range I get with acrylics. My work is realistic, a bit impressionistic, and I enjoy experimenting with color and texture. I've also developed a love for mixed media collage, and my expertise continues to grow with each piece I create.
In recent years most of my efforts have been directed at painting pet portraits on commission. I have many very happy clients who have given me more work and more referrals that I had thought possible. My other web site, http://www.pet-portraits-by-deena.comfeatures the many portraits I have painted of dogs, cats and horses.
I love architecture, especially that of the American Southwest. A visit to Santa Fe fostered my love of Southwest architecture and scenery, and has given me the inspiration to paint the beautiful buildings and vistas of Northern New Mexico. I am fortunate to live in the Texas Hill Country, which gives me beautiful scenery and vintage architecture to inspire me.
